The paper presents data, collected in the Veliky Ustyug Central Archive, on housing construction at logging sites in the Veliky Ustyug Forestry Enterprise in the early 1930s, based on newly introduced scientific data. It describes the existing and planned housing stock at logging sites and provides information on the living conditions of loggers. Plans for an accelerated increase in logging volumes required accelerated personnel development and housing construction at logging sites, but the construction of residential and administrative buildings proceeded slowly, usually without meeting all necessary requirements. The situation with labor recruitment for forestry work, which was a failure in the early 1930s, in part due to the lack of adequate working and living conditions, clearly demonstrates that without the infusion of labor from non-regional sources, the rapidly expanding logging plans could not be met.
