The paper covers the development of correspondence education in secondary specialized educational institutions in the European North of Russia in the 1950-1960s. The analysis of this process was carried out on the basis of data from regional statistical collections and reports from educational institutions of the secondary specialized education system. The research period coincides with the educational reform carried out in the USSR during these years, one of the key lines of which was the development of correspondence education. During the period under study, not only the number of educational institutions that offered correspondence courses increased, but also the number of correspondence students increased significantly, which had a positive effect on the growth of the total number of students in the system under study and, accordingly, on the increase in trained mid-level specialists.
